ARTIST STATEMENT

My work explores my emotional response to the world around me and my understanding of it, which in turn unravels itself into a piece of art, jewellery or miniature sculpture. With influences as diverse as Kiki Smith, Helene Schjerfbeck and Esther Knobel, new harmonies are created from traditional and modern layers.

 

Ever since I was a child, I have shared my innocent curiosities through drawing and have had a particular interest in learning about different cultures, from the ancient way of life in Pompeii to how the Japanese see the beauty in broken objects. These interests feed into my love of drawing which underpins my creative journey and through it I wish to convey a sense of fragility and strength which embodies my deep connection with nature. There is an essence of poetry contained within my work, as I enjoy exploring materials in the way a writer seeks words.
